The Significance of Rukmini Kalyanam: One of Goddess Lakshmi’s incarnations is Rukmini, born to wed Lord Krishna. Rukmini’s brothers and those around her try to arrange her marriage to another evil king, Sisupala. Rukmini, her mind and heart always with Lord Krishna, writes a letter inviting Krishna to marry her. Rukmini’s trusted guru promptly delivers her message to Lord Krishna. Sri Krishna speeds to Rukmini, and defeats all the other kings vying for her hand. The two then marry with great fanfare in Dwaraka, Lord Krishna’s residence.
